City gas project expands cleaner energy access in Thiruvananthapuram

The city gas distribution project in Thiruvananthapuram is expanding access to cleaner energy, with officials reporting significant progress in pipeline laying and household connections.

The project, being implemented by THINK Gas, involves an investment of around Rs 700 crore. So far, approximately 591 kilometres of pipeline have been laid across the city.

Officials said the network has enabled over 16,000 piped natural gas (PNG) connections for households, commercial establishments and industries, reported The Times of India.

As part of the next phase, four new CNG stations are planned to be opened by March 2026, which is expected to further strengthen the city’s clean fuel infrastructure.

The project is aimed at supporting India’s transition to cleaner energy and reducing dependence on conventional fuels.
