PM Modi reviews growth strategy with Economic Advisory Council amid global uncertainty

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday discussed with members of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) various measures aimed at further boosting India’s economic growth amid global turmoil, official sources said.

The members of the EAC-PM also presented their assessment of the impact of the West Asia conflict on India and the wider world.

According to the sources, the Prime Minister and EAC members exchanged views on a range of ideas and measures to strengthen India’s economic growth in a period marked by global uncertainty.

The high-level meeting also discussed reforms aimed at improving ease of living and ease of doing business, the sources said.

The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister is an independent body that advises the Government of India, particularly the Prime Minister, on economic and related matters.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister’s two principal secretaries, PK Mishra and Shaktikanta Das, along with members of the EAC.

At present, the council comprises a chairman, three full-time members and 11 part-time members.

S Mahendra Dev serves as chairman, while the full-time members are Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Sanjeev Sanyal and Shamika Ravi.

The 11 part-time members are Rakesh Mohan, Sajjid. Z. Chinoy, Neelkanth Mishra, Nilesh Shah, TT Ram Mohan, Soumya Kanti Ghosh, KV Raju, Chetan Ghate, Pami Dua, Pulak Ghosh and Gaurav Vallabh.

The terms of reference of the EAC include analysing any issue, economic or otherwise, referred to it by the Prime Minister and advising him on the matter. The council also addresses issues of macroeconomic importance and presents its views to the Prime Minister.

These matters may be taken up either suo motu or on reference from the Prime Minister or any other source. The council is also tasked with undertaking any other assignment that may be assigned by the Prime Minister from time to time.
