Piyush Goyal: India in FTA talks with US, EU and others

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said India is in active talks on free trade agreements with several major partners, including the US, the European Union, New Zealand, Oman, Peru and Chile.

Speaking at the CII Partnership Summit 2025, Goyal said India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) is open to working with the Andhra Pradesh government to develop the proposed Andhra Mandapam into a world-class convention centre on the lines of Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

He said lowering global trade barriers would support the free movement of goods, services and capital. India has already implemented free trade agreements with partners such as the UAE, Australia and the four-nation European bloc EFTA.

“We are currently negotiating with the EU, US, Oman, New Zealand, Chile and Peru and many more wanting us to start negotiations,” he said.

Goyal also said the Centre has removed 42,000 compliances and abolished 1,500 laws to promote ease of doing business.
