Gujarat allocates Rs 663 crore for panchayat buildings in villages

The Gujarat government has allocated Rs 663 crore for constructing dedicated panchayat buildings combined with residences for talatis in 2,666 villages, officials said.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched the initiative at an event in Bhadran village, Anand district, calling it a measure to strengthen rural infrastructure and improve access to government services at the grassroots level.

The scheme aims to provide every gram panchayat with its own facility, enhancing administrative efficiency, reported The Times of India.

In the first phase, 114 villages that serve as taluka headquarters but lack municipal status will receive urban-like amenities including better roads, water supply, sanitation, solar lighting, e-gram services and community halls.

Officials said the government plans to expand the scheme to include more large gram panchayats with populations above 10,000 in later phases.
