Rs 125 crore Ghaziabad flyover at Hapur Chungi to open by June 2027

Construction of the long-awaited Hapur Chungi elevated road in Ghaziabad is set to begin this month after the tender for the project was awarded, with officials targeting completion within nine months and opening to traffic by June 2027.

The project is estimated to cost Rs 125 crore, according to a Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) official. The proposed flyover will bypass the Hapur Chungi roundabout, which regularly experiences traffic bottlenecks even during non-peak hours.

The junction handles traffic from Kavinagar, RNE, the district magistrate’s office and police lines. Vehicles travelling in different directions currently have to negotiate the roundabout because the junction does not have grade separation.

The congestion is also affected by traffic heading towards Hapur. Many commuters use city roads, including Surdas Marg and Rani Jhansi Marg, through the intersection instead of NH-9 or the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, adding to pressure on the local network.

The proposed elevated road will provide direct access from RNE township to Diamond Flyover, which is connected to NH-9 near Kavinagar Industrial Area.

The flyover will run from the RNE side towards Kavinagar and Shastri Nagar, allowing traffic to bypass the Hapur Chungi roundabout and move towards the police lines side.

Officials said the structure will be 1.2 km long and four lanes wide. It will begin near ALT junction and descend on Surdas Marg, around 500 metres ahead of Diamond Flyover.

The surrounding corridor includes several important government and institutional offices. The Thakurdwara-Dasna stretch is home to the GDA and Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation offices, police lines, Rajnagar District Centre, Ghaziabad Court, including the CBI court, police headquarters, the collectorate and passport office.

The new flyover is expected to provide grade-separated movement through the busy junction once construction is completed.
