Rs 2,200 crore allocated for RRTS to ease Delhi-NCR congestion

The Union Budget has allocated Rs 2,200 crore for the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to support the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), with the aim of easing congestion and strengthening faster public transport across the Delhi-NCR region.

The allocation was announced as part of budget proposals presented on February 1, 2026, with officials saying the funding will help advance work on key RRTS corridors, reported The Times of India.

The RRTS network includes routes such as Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut and other planned corridors linking major NCR cities. The system is designed to reduce travel time, shift commuters away from road transport and improve regional connectivity.

Officials said the funding will support ongoing construction and operational requirements of the high-speed regional transit network, which is a key component of long-term urban mobility planning in the National Capital Region.
