Andhra Pradesh identifies five cities as model e-mobility hubs under new policy

The Andhra Pradesh government has identified Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Nellore and Rajahmundry as model e-mobility cities under its new electric mobility policy.

Officials said the initiative would focus on expanding EV charging infrastructure, battery-swapping systems and electric public transport networks across the selected cities.

The state government has earmarked ₹250 crore for the rollout of the programme.

Plans also include development of zero-emission zones and incentives linked to clean urban transport systems.

Authorities said the project is aimed at accelerating electric vehicle adoption and reducing urban pollution levels, reported The Times of India.

Infrastructure related to charging stations and mobility support systems will be developed in phases.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to transition towards cleaner transport systems in rapidly growing urban centres.

Officials indicated that public and private sector participation would be encouraged during implementation.

The development reflects increasing focus among Indian states on expanding sustainable urban mobility infrastructure.
