Nashik plans 58 km Metro network costing Rs 14,520 crore

Maha Metro has proposed a 58 km Light Metro network for Nashik at an estimated cost of Rs 14,520 crore. The network will be developed in two phases to meet the city’s transport needs over the next 20 years.

According to a report by Times of India, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) has proposed the network as part of Nashik’s draft Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP).

The draft CMP identifies three corridors suitable for a Light Metro network. Maha Metro will take the final decision after completing the necessary procedures, consulting stakeholders and conducting detailed feasibility studies.

Maha Metro estimates that each corridor could carry nearly 11,000 passengers per hour during peak times.

The second phase proposes a 23-km corridor between Ambad and Nashik Airport, with an estimated cost of Rs 5,750 crore. The corridor is targeted for implementation by 2046.

Maha Metro recently shared the draft CMP with stakeholders and invited feedback. Officials are reviewing the suggestions and updating the document.

The final CMP is expected to be submitted to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in September for approval.

The Centre had earlier announced a Neo Metro project for Nashik in the Union Budget 2021-22, with an allocation of Rs 2,092 crore. The proposal was later dropped.

The new Light Metro proposal aims to provide a fresh framework for Nashik’s long-term urban transport needs.
