Delhi Metro begins work on Rs 9,570 crore Central Vista corridor

Construction has begun on the RK Ashram–Indraprastha corridor under Delhi Metro’s Phase 5A expansion programme, marking the start of one of the capital’s largest urban mobility projects.

The corridor was approved by the Union Cabinet in December 2025 as part of the Phase 5A package and is estimated to cost ₹9,570 crore. The route will provide metro connectivity to the Central Vista area and several key government districts.

Officials said work has commenced on underground sections and station infrastructure along the corridor.

The RK Ashram–Indraprastha route is planned as an extension of the Botanical Garden–RK Ashram corridor and will improve access to Central Vista, Bharat Mandapam and surrounding administrative areas.

The project forms part of a wider Phase 5A expansion that includes three new metro corridors approved by the Centre.

Authorities said the expansion is aimed at reducing road congestion, improving public transport access and supporting future growth in central Delhi.

The corridor is expected to become a key component of Delhi’s expanding metro network and improve connectivity between major transport hubs and government districts.
