Nagpur installs mist systems at traffic junctions to provide heat relief

Nagpur Municipal Corporation has begun installing mist systems at major traffic junctions to provide relief to commuters amid continuing extreme heat conditions.

The initiative has been launched at 10 busy intersections across the city under a corporate social responsibility programme.

Officials said sprinklers and green shade nets are being introduced at traffic signals where motorists spend extended periods waiting during peak daytime temperatures, reported The Times of India.

Nagpur has recorded temperatures above 44 degree celsius in recent days.

Civic authorities said the project is aimed at reducing heat exposure for commuters and traffic personnel.

Additional junctions may be added later depending on public response and operational assessment.

The move comes as several Indian cities review measures to deal with prolonged summer heat and rising urban temperatures.

Authorities indicated that the mist systems are part of broader heat mitigation efforts being explored across public spaces.
