Bhubaneswar in focus under new City Economic Regions plan

Bhubaneswar is expected to benefit from the City Economic Regions (CER) initiative announced in the Union Budget 2026, officials said.

Under the initiative, selected cities will receive Rs 5,000 crore over five years through competitive funding to support infrastructure upgrades, connectivity improvements and economic development, reported The Times of India.

Officials said Bhubaneswar’s inclusion is linked to its role as the state capital of Odisha and its ongoing urban development programmes.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening Tier-II and Tier-III cities and promoting planned urban growth through targeted investment.
