Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad to develop 500-metre zones around metro stations

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has approved a plan to develop 500-metre zones around 11 metro stations under its Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy to encourage sustainable urban growth and reduce traffic congestion.

According to officials, the development will include mixed-use zoning for commercial and residential projects, pedestrian-friendly streets, and green spaces, reported The Free Press Journal.

The initiative is part of PCMC’s larger strategy to align urban infrastructure with the Pune Metro corridors operated by MahaMetro.

Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar said the TOD plan was finalised after consultations with urban design experts and citizens. “The goal is to promote walk-to-work neighbourhoods and reduce private vehicle dependence,” he said.

The corporation will soon begin public consultations on zoning modifications and incentive policies for developers building within the defined TOD radius. The initiative covers key stations including PCMC, Akurdi, Nigdi and Kasarwadi.

Officials said the plan is expected to attract investments of over Rs 2,000 crore in real estate and urban infrastructure in the next two years.
