Delhi airport’s revamped Terminal 2 to reopen on October 26

Delhi airport’s revamped Terminal 2 (T2) will reopen on October 26, increasing the airport’s overall passenger handling capacity as Air India and IndiGo prepare to operate 120 flights daily from the terminal.

Inaugurating the upgraded terminal, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said the government is developing airports at an unprecedented pace to transform them into world-class transit hubs.

“Handling nearly 50 per cent of the Northern region’s total passenger traffic and managing nearly 50,000 transfers every day, Delhi is emerging as a preferred transfer hub,” Naidu said.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) currently has a capacity of over 100 million passengers annually. The more than 40-year-old T2 was closed in April for renovation and will reopen on the intervening night of October 25–26, coinciding with the start of the winter schedule that runs from October 26, 2025, to March 28, 2026.

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), operated by the GMR-led consortium, said the reopening of T2 would allow for more balanced airline operations across terminals. “This (T2) reopening also allows for more balanced airline operations across terminals, further enhancing efficiency and convenience for millions of travellers,” said DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar.

Naidu said India could become one of the world’s largest civil aviation ecosystems, adding that Delhi airport can handle up to 130 million passengers annually with efficient space utilisation.

The upgraded terminal includes new features such as a Self Baggage Drop facility, six new Passenger Boarding Bridges, and major electrical and mechanical upgrades to support future traffic growth.

The first arriving flight at T2 will be IndiGo’s 6E 2058 from Lucknow at 12.25 am, followed by IndiGo’s 6E 2343 to Pune at 2.15 am as the first departure.
