Nashik Plans Rs 750 Crore Sewerage Upgrade with World Bank Support

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started talks with the World Bank to raise Rs 750 crore for expanding and modernising the city’s sewerage system.

Under the proposal, about 200 km of new sewer lines will be laid and old ones replaced in areas such as Pachavati, CIDCO, Nashik Road and Satpur.

At present, Nashik’s 1,600-km network handles roughly 323 million litres a day (MLD) of sewage.

A meeting held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan reviewed the funding structure and scope of work. Officials said a detailed project report would soon be prepared to finalise cost and technical design.

The NMC has already invited bids for 90 km of sewer lines worth Rs 190 crore under the AMRUT scheme, funded equally by the Centre and the state.

The proposed World Bank support will help extend the coverage to peripheral growth zones and industrial areas.

Municipal officials said the new network will improve sanitation, reduce overflow during monsoons and support real-estate and industrial expansion.

The upgraded system will also help meet pollution-control standards for the Godavari River.

The civic body plans to integrate real-time monitoring of sewage flow once the project is complete.
