Work on Kumarichantha Flyover in Thiruvananthapuram Resumes After Design Row

Construction of the Rs 22 crore Kumarichantha flyover on NH 66 in Thiruvananthapuram has resumed after several months of suspension due to a design dispute.

The project, which had stopped in March 2025, is being revived following the state government’s intervention.

District Collector Anu Kumari convened a meeting between the NHAI and local traders to address concerns that the earlier design would obstruct visibility and restrict access to nearby shops, reported The Times of India.

The modified plan includes a five-pillar structure with wider spans to allow better clearance.

Minister PK Sivankutty said if disagreements persist, the engineering plans will be re-examined within 45 days to prevent further delay.

The authorities have also agreed to build a temporary access road before full-scale construction resumes.

Officials said the flyover is vital for decongesting the Ambalathara-Poonthura corridor and improving traffic toward Technopark and nearby residential zones.

Once work restarts, the project is expected to be completed in 18 months. The NHAI has been asked to ensure safety and minimum disruption during construction.
