Punjab to Upgrade Nearly 19,492 km of Rural Link Roads at Rs 4,150 Crore

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a major infrastructure drive aimed at improving nearly 19,492 kilometres of rural link roads across the state.

The project, valued at around Rs 4,150 crore, will cover both the repair of existing stretches and the construction of new links.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the initiative will be carried out in multiple phases and is expected to provide better access between villages, markets, and major highways. Mann said the government would employ AI-based road condition surveys to ensure efficiency and cost transparency during execution.

The Chief Minister said this project will improve connectivity for farmers and rural communities, reducing transportation costs for agricultural goods and perishable produce.

“The link road network is the backbone of Punjab’s economy. This project will support rural mobility and strengthen the supply chain for farmers,” he said.

The state government has earmarked funds for both new road construction and maintenance, ensuring longevity of the improved infrastructure.

Tenders are expected to be floated soon, and the work is likely to commence before the year-end, officials added.
