Pune identifies 18 growth hubs in new regional plan

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has identified 18 growth hubs as part of a new structural plan that will guide long-term development across the Pune Metropolitan Region.

Officials said the authority aims to finalise the structural plan within the next 18 months. The new blueprint will replace the existing framework and serve as the basis for planned urban expansion, infrastructure development and land use across the region, reported The Times of India.

According to PMRDA, the identified growth hubs have been selected to promote balanced urbanisation, improve regional connectivity and support future economic development.

The authority said the plan will focus on creating future-ready infrastructure while addressing expected population growth and environmental considerations.

Officials indicated that the structural plan would also support employment generation, improve transport connectivity and strengthen the region’s overall quality of life through integrated planning.

The Pune Metropolitan Region has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing urban areas, and the new plan is expected to provide a roadmap for sustainable development over the coming decades.
