Nashik clears encroachments near Ramkund ahead of Kumbh festival

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a major anti-encroachment drive to clear illegal structures from key roads and religious sites ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela, officials said.

The operation recently focused on the Malegaon Stand-Ramkund stretch and Godaghat, where obstructive kiosks and stalls were removed, reported The Times of India.

Despite initial resistance, the drive resumed with police support. Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri said efforts will continue across main routes to ensure pathways are clear for the upcoming festivities.

NMC reported that around 70 unauthorised structures have already been removed from areas such as Sarda Circle-Dwarka Circle and Dindori Road.

Officials said the action is part of a long-term strategy covering 61 commercial markets, with about 160 personnel deployed over three years at an estimated cost of Rs 18 crore.
