Karnataka to Install 1,500 High-Capacity EV Charging Stations

Karnataka is expanding its electric-mobility network with a plan to install 1,500 high-capacity electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state under the central government’s PM E-Drive Scheme.

According to the state’s Energy Department, the proposal includes fast chargers ranging from 60 kW to 240 kW, aimed at supporting public buses, logistics hubs, highways, and freight corridors.

Karnataka already leads the country with 6,097 public charging stations, and around 184 of its 209 existing chargers have been upgraded to fast-charging units, cutting downtime for EVs from several hours to under 45 minutes.

The government is working with oil companies including Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) to add 400 additional charging points at fuel outlets.

Officials said the initiative aligns with the state’s goal to position Karnataka as a national leader in electric mobility, supporting India’s broader targets for green transport and renewable energy adoption.
