Indore presents Rs 8,455 crore budget with focus on water infrastructure

Indore Municipal Corporation has presented a Rs 8,455.61 crore budget for the financial year 2026–27, focusing on water infrastructure upgrades.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav said the emphasis would remain on completing ongoing projects rather than launching new ones.

Key initiatives include the Narmada Project Phase IV, pipeline replacement and the setting up of water testing laboratories.

“No new taxes” were proposed in the budget, with the focus on improving existing systems.

The move comes in the backdrop of recent water contamination issues in Bhagirathpura, which triggered concerns over civic infrastructure.

The budget also highlights the need for administrative efficiency, as the corporation’s actual earnings last year stood at Rs 2,433 crore.

At the same time, civic issues remain under scrutiny following an incident where a man died after falling into an open drainage chamber, leading to action against staff.

Officials have also initiated checks on illegal colony developments as part of wider monitoring efforts.
