Government plans Rs 3.84 lakh crore short-term borrowing through T-bills in Q4

The weekly auction size will range between Rs 29,000 crore and Rs 35,000 crore, according to a statement issued by the finance ministry.

The proposed borrowing amount is Rs 10,000 crore lower than the Rs 3.94 lakh crore raised through treasury bills during the same quarter of the previous financial year.

For the third quarter of the current financial year ending December 31, 2025, the government had issued an auction calendar for treasury bills worth Rs 2.47 lakh crore.

The government said that, in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India, it will retain the flexibility to modify the indicated borrowing amount and auction timing depending on funding requirements, evolving market conditions and other relevant factors, after giving due notice to the market.

The statement added that the borrowing calendar is subject to change if circumstances so warrant, including reasons such as intervening holidays.
