India ‘late but strong’ in semiconductors, will soon export: Amit Shah

India has entered the global semiconductor industry “a bit late” but will soon become self-reliant and start exporting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday.

Speaking at the ‘Abhyudaya Madhya Pradesh Growth Summit’ in Gwalior on the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Shah said, “We have made a strong entry into the semiconductor industry, although a bit late. In no time, we will not only become self-reliant in the semiconductor sector, but will also start exporting it.”

He said Madhya Pradesh’s geographical location and fertile land make it an attractive destination for investment. “The geographical location of Madhya Pradesh is so attractive and its land so fertile that one can earn crores of rupees by investing even a small amount in the state,” he said.

On the occasion, he inaugurated and performed the groundbreaking ceremony for industrial projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore. Officials said these projects are expected to generate 1.93 lakh employment opportunities, and the Growth Summit has drawn the participation of 25,000 beneficiaries, thousands of entrepreneurs and investors.

Paying tribute to Vajpayee, Shah said, “Atal ji was a great orator, a sensitive poet, a leader dedicated to public welfare and remained ‘ajatashatru’ (person without enemies) in politics.”

He also paid tributes to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya on his birth anniversary and C Rajagopalachari on his death anniversary.

Shah highlighted the state’s progress, stating that Madhya Pradesh, once seen as backward in the power sector, “today has surplus power.” He also said the state “has left the entire country behind” in cleanliness.

As part of the programmes, Shah inaugurated the Gwalior Fair and dedicated to the public the renovation work at the Atal Museum.
