Manufacturing, electricity push India’s industrial output up 7.3 per cent in June

India’s industrial production grew 7.3 per cent year-on-year in June 2026, up from 5.1 per cent in the preceding month, supported by improved performance in the manufacturing sector and strong growth in the electricity and gas supply sector.

The data, released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Tuesday, is the third monthly Index of Industrial Production (IIP) based on the new series.

“In June 2026, Index of Industrial Production recorded a 7.3 per cent year-on-year growth, supported by 7.8 per cent growth in Manufacturing sector and strong growth of 10.6 per cent in Electricity & Gas Supply sector,” the NSO said in a release.

According to the release, the IIP growth rate for June 2026 stood at 7.3 per cent, compared with 5.1 per cent (Quick Estimate released in June) for May 2026. It added that the revised estimate of IIP growth for May was 5 per cent.

Sector-wise, Mining & Quarrying production increased by 1 per cent, Manufacturing grew by 7.8 per cent, Electricity & Gas Supply and Water Supply rose by 10.6 per cent, while Sewerage & Waste Management recorded growth of 6.1 per cent in June 2026 compared with the same month last year.

Within the manufacturing sector, 19 of the 23 industry groups recorded positive growth in June 2026 over June 2025.

The top three contributors to manufacturing growth during the month were manufacture of electrical equipment at 34 per cent, manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers at 17.5 per cent, and manufacture of food products at 10.8 per cent.
