India’s deeptech market projected to touch USD 30 bn by 2030: Report

India’s deeptech sector is set for rapid expansion, with its market potential projected to reach USD 30 billion by 2030, according to a report by Redseer Strategy Consultants. The growth will be led by defence innovation and an accelerating global robotics market.

The report highlights a major shift in national spending towards defence deeptech, with India’s defence budget doubling over the past decade to USD 80 billion — outpacing the growth rates of leading global spenders such as the United States and China during the same period.

“India’s deep tech opportunity has grown 2.5 times in the past five years and is poised to be a USD 30 billion juggernaut by 2030. India is emerging as the only trusted, low-cost scale hub outside China. Its deeptech base, i.e. USD 9–12 billion as of FY2025, is being pulled forward by spending in India’s defence deeptech and global robotics,” the report noted.

The report identifies India’s growing reputation as a trusted, low-cost manufacturing and innovation hub as a key factor in its rise. Robotics, a major component of this shift, is seeing substantial global momentum. The global robotic machines market, currently valued at USD 60 billion, is expected to grow nearly fourfold to USD 230 billion by 2030. Within this, humanoid robots are projected to represent an estimated USD 10 billion opportunity.

India’s cost advantage remains a strong differentiator, with humanoid robot production costs around 73 per cent lower than in the US. This efficiency is attributed to integrated local production, lower labour costs, and optimised sourcing.

Immediate opportunities identified by Redseer include autonomous systems, AI-enabled training, and advanced energy propulsion technologies — particularly in the design and deployment of intelligent, resilient drones.

“Deeptech is no longer tomorrow’s bet — it’s the next economic engine. India’s defence-deeptech flywheel is turning and creating investible, predictable returns,” the report said.
