Indian Battery Manufacturers Association names new leadership

The Indian Battery Manufacturers Association (IBMA) has appointed Avik Kumar Roy, CEO and Managing Director of Exide Industries Ltd, as its new President at the Association’s 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Kolkata on 12 November 2025.

Roy succeeds Preeti Bajaj, Managing Director and CEO of Luminous Power Technologies, who served as the outgoing President. The Association has also elected Harshavardhana Gourineni, Executive Director of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility, as the new Vice President.

The 4th AGM brought together industry leaders from India’s lead-acid battery manufacturing sector. Discussions focused on the ongoing transformation in the battery ecosystem, including advancements in battery chemistries and the shift towards e-mobility and renewable energy, which are reshaping opportunities for traditional lead-acid applications and emerging chemistries.

IBMA outlined its strategic priorities for the coming year. These include strengthening circularity across the battery industry through sustainable manufacturing and recycling practices, improving material recovery and reducing waste. The Association plans to increase public advocacy before regulatory authorities to ensure the sector’s interests are effectively represented.

The organisation also aims to benchmark manufacturing and recycling standards for lead-acid batteries to create a consistent framework for quality and environmental responsibility. IBMA plans to raise awareness about the importance and sustainability of lead-acid batteries in automotive and energy storage applications while increasing visibility for the industry among key stakeholders. Expanding its membership base to include more manufacturers is another identified goal.

With the new leadership and focus areas, IBMA aims to reinforce its role as a key representative body for India’s battery manufacturers and support responsible growth across the energy storage sector.
