India home to 308 billionaires, ranks third globally: Hurun Rich List 2026

India is now home to 308 billionaires, ranking the country third globally after China and the United States, according to the Hurun Global Rich List 2026 released on Saturday.

The latest report shows that India added 24 new billionaires over the past year, reflecting continued wealth creation across multiple sectors of the economy.

The Hurun Global Rich List is an annual ranking of US dollar billionaires worldwide compiled by the Hurun Research Institute. Wealth for the 2026 list was calculated using a snapshot of personal fortunes as of January 15, 2026.

According to the report, China leads the global ranking with 1,110 billionaires, while the United States has 1,000 billionaires.

Among Indian business leaders, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, continues to be the richest person in India and Asia. Gautam Adani ranks second among Indian billionaires.

The Hurun Global Rich List tracks wealth creation trends across industries and geographies and provides a snapshot of the distribution of billionaires worldwide.

India’s billionaire population has grown steadily over the years, driven by expansion in sectors such as technology, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and financial services.

The increase in the number of billionaires also reflects continued entrepreneurship and investment activity across the country.

Major cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru remain key hubs for India’s wealthiest entrepreneurs and business leaders.
