Govt nod for 7 projects under ECMS as India pushes local electronics manufacturing

The government has cleared seven projects worth Rs 5,532 crore under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday.

The approvals were made from 249 proposals submitted under the scheme aimed at boosting domestic production of key electronic parts.

Vaishnaw said the initial projects include manufacturing of printed circuit boards, camera modules, copper laminates, and polypropylene films used in capacitors for consumer electronics.

Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said the projects are expected to create 5,195 jobs.

The ECMS has received investment proposals worth ₹1.15 lakh crore so far. While the first phase of the scheme closed on September 30, the window for capital equipment proposals remains open.

The scheme, part of India’s broader push for self-reliance in electronics manufacturing, seeks to strengthen the local components ecosystem and reduce import dependence.
