Delhi: Pragati Maidan underpass project back on track, completion by December 2026

The Pragati Maidan Underpass-5 project in Delhi is back on track after securing a no-objection certificate from Indian Railways.

The project is now scheduled for completion by December 2026 and is part of the larger Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor.

Once completed, it will provide signal-free connectivity between Sarai Kale Khan and Mathura Road through the Bhairon Marg underpass, reported The Times of India.

The corridor is expected to improve traffic movement across east, central and southeast Delhi, including key areas such as ITO, Rajghat and Laxmi Nagar.

The project had faced delays due to engineering challenges, soil settlement issues near railway embankments and coordination gaps between agencies.

A revised plan was approved in August 2025 by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

With the railway clearance now in place, focus has shifted to execution timelines, with officials emphasising accountability and efficiency in completing the project.
