Funding cleared for three new Phase-IV Metro routes in Delhi

The Delhi government has approved funding for the remaining three corridors of the Delhi Metro Phase-IV project, clearing the way for the next phase of expansion of the city’s mass rapid transit network.

The total investment for the three corridors is Rs 14,630 crore, covering a 47.2-kilometre network. The approved corridors are Rithala-Kundli, Lajpat Nagar-Saket G-Block, and Inderlok-Indraprastha, reported The Times of India.

The Delhi government will contribute Rs 3,386 crore to the project. The construction period for the corridors is expected to be four years.

The Rithala-Kundli corridor will extend metro connectivity to Haryana, while the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G-Block and Inderlok-Indraprastha corridors will improve links across south, central and north Delhi.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the expansion would help reduce traffic congestion and pollution by encouraging greater use of public transport. Tendering for the corridors is underway, and construction has begun on some sections.
