Commercial LPG price hiked by record Rs 993 per 19-kg cylinder

Commercial LPG prices were hiked by a record Rs 993 per 19-kg cylinder on Friday, marking the third consecutive monthly increase amid rising global energy prices linked to the conflict in West Asia.

Following the latest revision, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder — used by hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments — will now cost Rs 3,071.5 in Delhi, up from Rs 2,078.50 earlier.

This is the sharpest increase ever in the price of commercial LPG cylinders.

The latest hike follows an increase of Rs 195.50 per cylinder on April 1. Before that, prices had been raised by Rs 114.5 per 19-kg cylinder on March 1.

With the three consecutive hikes, commercial LPG prices have increased by a total of Rs 1,303.

Prices of domestic cooking gas LPG, used in household kitchens, remained unchanged. Domestic LPG rates were last increased by Rs 60 per 14.2-kg cylinder on March 7. A 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder currently costs Rs 913 in Delhi.

State-owned oil marketing companies — Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum — revise aviation turbine fuel (ATF) and LPG prices on the first day of every month based on international benchmark rates and currency exchange movements.

Global oil prices have risen nearly 50 per cent after the war in West Asia disrupted energy supply chains.

Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged after a Rs 2 per-litre cut in March last year. Petrol is currently priced at Rs 94.72 per litre in Delhi, while diesel costs Rs 87.62 per litre.
