The Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) first major public mobilisation concluded at Jantar Mantar on Saturday after drawing hundreds of students, young professionals and supporters from across the country. “I was fully prepared to sacrifice my freedom for this cause,” he told the crowd. Dipke also said fear of imprisonment had led many people to compromise, but argued that young Indians had remained steadfast. “The youth and students of this country have not sold themselves,” he said.

He also thanked activist Sonam Wangchuk for supporting the movement and said he was expected to join the demonstration later in the day.

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised the government, accusing it of focusing on the organisation’s social media activity instead of addressing its demands, including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in examinations and recruitment tests.

Addressing supporters at the demonstration, Dipke said: “My friends, this is a long struggle. It has been a month since we started demanding Pradhan’s resignation on social media, but these individuals are so shameless that instead of taking action, they have been focused on other distractions, like hacking our accounts and getting our posts deleted. Abhijeet Dipke joins supporters at Jantar Mantar

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the online movement Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), joined the planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar amid heightened security arrangements in the national capital.

Hundreds of people, mostly young individuals, turned out for the protest. Many were seen wearing cockroach masks and holding flowers. School students also attended the protest along with their parents. The majority of participants were school and college students as well as young professionals.

Dipke calls for peaceful protest

Upon landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport from the United States, Dipke shared a message on X calling on supporters to ensure the protest remains peaceful.

“Landed. Looking forward to meet you all at Jantar Mantar. Do not forget to carry a book and our Tiranga! Offer flowers to policemen as a gesture of compassion & gratitude. We have to lead this movement with love and peace!” he wrote.

Earlier, he had posted:

“On my way to India… Leaving my fate in the hands of the Constitution. #JaiBhim.”

Delhi Police grants permission for protest

The Cockroach Janta Party said Delhi Police had granted permission for the protest at Jantar Mantar.

Earlier, supporters had been urged to gather at Parliament Street Police Station to jointly seek permission for the demonstration.

“Delhi Police has granted permission for the protest at Jantar Mantar. We can now assemble directly at Jantar Mantar, and no longer need to go to the Parliament Street Police Station, as originally planned,” the CJP said in a post on X.

“Cockroaches aa rahe hain, Dharmendra Pradhan jaa rahe hain (cockroaches are coming, Dharmendra Pradhan is leaving),” it added.

Security tightened across Delhi

Security arrangements have been strengthened at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, major railway stations, inter-state bus terminals and border points connecting Delhi with neighbouring states.

Around 40 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed to assist Delhi Police in maintaining law and order, sources said.

Senior officers, including Joint Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners of Police, Additional DCPs and ACPs from various districts, have been assigned field duties to supervise security arrangements.

Police officials said more than 1,000 police personnel have been allocated for deployment throughout New Delhi and other strategic locations as a precaution.

Officials also indicated that additional personnel have been deployed at airport facilities, border entry points and other sensitive locations.

Sonam Wangchuk extends support

Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has expressed support for the protest, stated that he would undertake a six-week fast if Dipke is arrested.

Wangchuk encouraged young participants to maintain peace and cooperate with authorities.

He advised protesters to carry only essential items such as water bottles and mobile phones and encouraged them to bring flowers. He also said that anyone found carrying weapons or suspicious objects should be reported to the police immediately.

CJP reiterates peaceful conduct guidelines

In the run-up to the protest, the CJP circulated guidelines urging participants to maintain non-violent conduct and avoid confrontation.

Dipke’s latest appeal reiterated those instructions, emphasising respectful engagement with law enforcement personnel during the demonstration.

Supporters were urged to carry books, the national flag and flowers while participating in the gathering.

“Why is the government so scared of cockroaches? But this dictatorial behaviour is opening the eyes of India’s youth. Our only crime is [that] we were demanding a better future for ourselves. But you can’t get rid of us that easily. We’re working on a new home right now. Cockroaches never die.”

Security stepped up at Dipke’s residence in Maharashtra

Police have expanded security arrangements at the residence of Abhijeet Dipke in the Waluj MIDC area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city in Maharashtra.

An officer said security cover has been increased to prevent unnecessary crowding as Dipke arrives in India.

“If there is a need to deploy more manpower, we will do so after a review,” DCP (Zone 1) Pankaj Atulkar said.

The officer said Dipke’s parents are not currently staying at the house in the Waluj area.

“They are not in contact with me,” he said, while declining to provide further details.

Why security has been intensified

Police officials said security arrangements were put in place after monitoring developments linked to the protest.

According to officials, the police had not received any formal request seeking permission for the demonstration, but arrangements were made based on information gathered through social media monitoring and other channels.
