Ahmedabad starts infrastructure planning for expanding city limits

Authorities in Ahmedabad have begun a planning exercise to develop civic infrastructure for outgrowth areas around the city, as part of efforts to manage rapid urban expansion.

The initiative aims to prepare a comprehensive plan for roads, drainage systems, water supply networks and other essential infrastructure in areas located outside the existing limits of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

Officials said several residential and commercial developments have emerged in the surrounding areas over the past few years, making it necessary to expand infrastructure planning beyond the municipal boundary.

The planning process will assess infrastructure gaps and propose development measures required to support these newly growing urban zones, reported The Times of India.

Authorities said the exercise will help integrate surrounding areas with the city’s infrastructure network and ensure that basic civic facilities are available as development continues.

The initiative is expected to support planned growth while improving connectivity and public services in expanding areas around Ahmedabad.
