Adani Group targets up to $5bn investment in Google’s India AI data centre

Adani Group is looking to invest up to $5 billion in Alphabet-owned Google’s upcoming artificial intelligence data centre project in Andhra Pradesh, its chief financial officer said on Friday, as the conglomerate moves to tap growing demand for high-capacity data infrastructure.

Google announced in October that it would invest $15 billion over five years to build an AI data centre in Visakhapatnam, marking its largest commitment in India. The facility will start with an initial power capacity of 1 gigawatt as AI-led computing requirements accelerate globally.

Adani Group CFO Jugeshinder Singh said the project could translate into an investment of up to $5 billion for Adani Connex, the joint venture between Adani Enterprises and data centre operator EdgeConneX.

“It’s not just Google, there are a lot of parties that would like to work with us, especially when the data centre capacity goes to gigawatt and higher,” Singh told reporters on Friday.

The investment comes as global tech firms race to build data infrastructure to support AI services. Google has committed around $85 billion this year to expand data centre capacity.

Indian billionaires Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani have also announced large-scale investments to build data centre capacity across the country.

Separately on Friday, the Adani Group said it is targeting total debt of Rs 1 lakh crore by 2030 and aims to ensure its growth plans do not rely on constant capital access. Speaking at the Trust Group’s 5th edition of the India Debt Capital Market Summit 2025, Singh said the group believes Indian infrastructure should be “primarily owned by India”.
