Rs 2,000 crore Greater Noida West Metro corridor may get approval this month

The long-pending Greater Noida West Metro corridor could receive Union Cabinet approval this month, clearing the way for tendering and construction of the proposed 8.4-km line.

Noida Chief Executive Officer Krishna Karunesh said all required no-objection certificates for the project had been obtained and that the detailed project report (DPR) was currently with the Prime Minister’s Office.

“The detailed project report (DPR) is with the PMO. We hope the cabinet gives its approval this month. Following this, a tender will be issued to appoint a developer,” Karunesh said.

The proposed elevated corridor will connect Noida Sector 51 with Greater Noida West Sector 4. The Public Investment Board cleared the project in July.

The line is estimated to cost nearly Rs 2,000 crore and will have five stations. The proposed stops are in Noida sectors 61, 70, 122 and 123, with the final station at Sector 4 near Gaur Chowk in Greater Noida.

The corridor is expected to provide a direct public transport option for residents of Greater Noida West, where commuters currently depend largely on road-based transport.

Officials expect the Metro to ease congestion around Gaur Chowk, a heavily congested stretch through which residents currently travel while commuting towards Noida.

The project was originally planned as an 18-km corridor between Delhi Metro’s Sector 61 station on the Blue Line and Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida. That alignment included Greater Noida sectors 2, 3, 10 and 12 as well as Ecotech 12.

The state government approved the original alignment in 2024. However, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had withheld its approval pending a decision on a proposed 72-km Ghaziabad-Jewar rapid rail corridor via Greater Noida West.

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation subsequently revised the DPR and reduced the proposed corridor to 8.4 km.

Once the Union Cabinet grants its approval, authorities are expected to move towards tendering and appointing a developer for the project.

The proposed extension comes as Noida and Greater Noida continue to expand their Metro network to meet growing demand for public transport in residential and commercial areas.
