Thiruvananthapuram Metro plans major multimodal hubs

The proposed Thiruvananthapuram Metro could become part of a much wider transport network for the city, with its Detailed Project Report (DPR) recommending major multimodal hubs at Pappanamcode and Anayara.

Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) submitted the DPR to the Kerala government with technical support from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The first phase proposes a 31-km elevated corridor with 27 stations, running from Pappanamcode to Enchakkal at an estimated cost of around Rs 8,000 crore.

Pappanamcode, at the southern end of the corridor, is proposed as a park-and-ride hub, allowing commuters travelling from Neyyattinkara, Balaramapuram, and Parassala to park and continue their journey into the city by metro — reducing the number of private vehicles entering central Thiruvananthapuram.

The larger hub is planned at Anayara, given its proximity to NH 66, Kochuveli railway station, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, and the Parvathy Puthanar waterway. The DPR envisions Anayara as a meeting point for metro rail, road transport, Indian Railways, air travel, and potentially future water-based public transport.

The proposed corridor alignment runs through Pappanamcode, Karamana, Thampanoor, Secretariat, Palayam, Medical College, Ulloor, Sreekaryam, Kazhakkoottam, Technopark, Akkulam, Kochuveli, the Airport, and Enchakkal. A 20-acre metro yard and maintenance facility is proposed at Kazhakkoottam, near Technopark, while stations are planned with lifts, escalators, and expanded parking.
