Delhi Metro to get AI-powered CCTV surveillance across key lines

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has floated a tender worth Rs 109.96 crore to upgrade its ageing analogue CCTV network to a modern, AI-enabled IP-based surveillance system.

The contract, listed as Tele-15/2026, calls for the work to be completed within 12 months, with a further five-year defect liability period. The pre-bid meeting was held on September 2, and bids must be submitted by September 21, 2026.

DMRC currently operates 2,531 analogue cameras across its network. While the tender document does not name specific stations, other DMRC filings indicate that 76 locations across the Red Line, Blue Line and Line 4 (which connects Vaishali to Yamuna Bank) have been identified for the switchover.

The new system is designed to do more than record footage. It will use AI to flag overcrowding, prolonged queuing, loitering, and any attempt to tamper with the cameras themselves.

It can also detect unauthorised entry onto the track area with a claimed 90 percent accuracy and immediately alert control room staff.

A key feature is the system’s ability to identify a person and follow their movement across multiple cameras throughout a station, which officials say will help track suspects more effectively than the current setup.

The upgraded cameras will be integrated into DMRC’s existing central surveillance network for live monitoring and recording, rather than operating as a standalone system.
