Bengaluru orders monthly reviews of civic works

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has ordered monthly reviews of civic works and grievances across the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) area.

The decision followed a review meeting with commissioners and officials from all five city corporations on Thursday, August 27. Gowda also instructed the Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Commissioner to conduct regular reviews and issue specific directions to officials.

“Only when officials perform effectively can we deliver better governance. When the administration responds properly, citizens too will respond positively,” the minister said.

Gowda ordered a re-examination of some complaints registered through Sahaya 2.0 since the formation of the GBA on September 2, 2025, after some had been marked as resolved by senior officials.

He also sought reports on the actual status of those complaints.

Officials have been directed to undertake a survey of potholes across all arterial and sub-arterial roads and repair them on priority.

“Once potholes on the major roads are addressed, the focus will shift to ward roads,” Gowda said.

The government is undertaking road repairs covering 2,500 km at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore, including asphalting and white-topping.

An auditing system will also track the work of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited and Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Development Limited.

Gowda said Bengaluru has approximately 840 km of stormwater drains within GBA limits, of which around 640 km have already been developed. The remaining 200 km will be developed using a Rs 2,000 crore fund.

He also ordered officials to replace faulty streetlights and accelerate installation of LED streetlights.

“Contractors who fail to perform their work properly will be penalised,” he said.

The five municipal corporations have a property-tax collection target of Rs 6,700 crore, of which Rs 3,382 crore, or 50.48 per cent, had been collected, Gowda said.
