Delhi’s Signature Bridge set for major overhaul after audit

The Delhi government has initiated a comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation plan for the Signature Bridge after a detailed inspection and condition assessment conducted in July identified several areas requiring corrective action.

The inspection found maintenance issues involving parts of the bridge’s steelwork, monitoring systems and foundation protection. Officials said the findings require preventive measures, specialised investigation and planned corrective maintenance.

The July audit identified corrosion in the skywalk ramp, damage to foundation protection and faulty sensors. Officials, however, said there was no immediate safety risk to the bridge.

The government has ordered a structured maintenance programme aimed at ensuring the bridge’s long-term safety, durability and serviceability.

The plan will cover inspections, preventive maintenance, specialised repairs and monitoring of the bridge’s structural components.

The Signature Bridge is a major crossing over the Yamuna and an important road link in north and northeast Delhi.

The latest exercise follows concerns over delayed and inadequate maintenance identified during the structural assessment.
