Watch: Noida airport waterlogged after heavy rain

Noida International Airport was waterlogged after heavy rain in Greater Noida on Tuesday, nearly five months after it was inaugurated.

Water accumulated on the passage connecting the terminal with the parking area at the Jewar airport, causing inconvenience to passengers and people at the airport.

A video showing water near the parking area surfaced on social media and quickly went viral. Airport staff could be seen working to clear the water.

Noida International Airport said extremely heavy rainfall over a short period caused rainwater to enter the passage connecting the terminal with the parking area. Teams cleared the water in under 30 minutes.

Traffic was temporarily rerouted through an alternate route, while passengers could be picked up directly at the kerb. The airport said the incident had minimal impact on operations and no flights were disrupted.

Vehicle and passenger movement between the terminal and parking area returned to normal after the water was cleared. Airport teams continued to monitor weather conditions.

The airport management said it was looking into the incident and would take corrective action wherever required.

The waterlogging triggered reactions on social media, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav taking a swipe at the BJP government.

Yadav posted on X: “Will boats now run at the airport? Wherever there is a BJP government, there is massive corruption!”

The incident also led to questions on social media over the airport’s drainage arrangements.

An X user called the waterlogging video the “terrifying, untold inside story” of the Noida International Airport at Jewar.

Another user reacted sarcastically, saying, “People just don’t want to see development.” The user added, “This isn’t corruption, it’s a facility,” and described the water accumulation as a “swimming pool” for people dropping off passengers to take a dip and enjoy themselves.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport on March 28, 2026.

The first phase was developed with an investment of around Rs 11,200 crore under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. It includes the terminal, runway and other essential aviation infrastructure.

Regular commercial flight operations began on June 15, 2026.
