Chandigarh launches road plantation drive to achieve full green coverage

Chandigarh’s engineering department has launched a plantation programme aimed at filling gaps in green coverage along major city roads.

More than Rs 95 lakh has been earmarked for planting trees, shrubs and installing tree guards across key corridors.

The project will cover Purv Marg, Dakshin Marg, Vikas Marg, Route No. 2 (NH-21) and Paschim Marg.

Officials said the work is expected to be completed within two months, reported The Times of India.

The initiative is intended to strengthen urban greenery, improve roadside landscapes and enhance environmental conditions across the city.

Authorities said the programme forms part of ongoing efforts to improve Chandigarh’s public spaces and urban environment
