Survey finds 46 per cent of Nagpur roads lack footpaths

A mobility assessment conducted by RITES has found that 46.1 per cent of Nagpur’s 643.6-km road network does not have footpaths.

According to the survey, only 42.2 per cent of roads have footpaths on both sides, while 11.7 per cent have footpaths on one side, reported The Times of India.

The study highlighted encroachments, damaged pavements and pedestrian-safety concerns across several parts of the city.

The findings come amid growing focus on pedestrian infrastructure and walkability in Indian cities.

Officials said the assessment would help identify infrastructure gaps and support future planning efforts.

The report has renewed attention on the need for safer and more accessible pedestrian facilities across Nagpur.
