V D Satheesan takes oath as Kerala Chief Minister

Congress leader V D Satheesan on Monday took oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala at a ceremony attended by senior Congress leaders, chief ministers of Congress-ruled states, opposition leaders and thousands of party workers.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to the Congress Legislature Party leader. Satheesan took oath in the name of God.

Along with Satheesan, the members of his 20-member Cabinet were also sworn in by the Governor.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were among those present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Chief ministers from Congress-ruled states, former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Left leaders and BJP representatives also attended the event.

Thousands of Congress workers from different parts of Kerala reached the state capital to witness the ceremony.

The Assembly elections for the 140-member Kerala Assembly were held on April 9, while the results were declared on May 4.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) won 102 seats in the elections. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) secured 35 seats, while the BJP won three seats.
