Delhi begins large-scale beautification work ahead of global summits

Delhi government agencies have started coordinated repair, landscaping and beautification work across the capital ahead of upcoming international summits scheduled later this year.

Authorities said the preparations are linked to the India-Africa Forum Summit and the Big Cat Alliance Summit.

The work covers eight major road corridors, 12 heritage locations and 13 hotels expected to host delegates and visitors.

Officials from NDMC, MCD, PWD and traffic agencies have been directed to complete the first phase of work by May 15, reported The Hindustan Times.

The programme includes road repairs, landscaping, street furniture upgrades and improvement of public infrastructure in identified areas.

Authorities said planning for the project has been revised using lessons from preparations undertaken during the G20 summit period.

The capital has witnessed multiple infrastructure upgrade drives linked to international events in recent years.

Officials indicated that inter-agency coordination meetings are continuing to monitor progress.
