Bhubaneswar removes hazardous pipe heads from key city stretches

Authorities in Bhubaneswar have removed hazardous protruding pipe heads from several busy road stretches following safety concerns raised by residents.

The action covered key junctions including Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan Road, Nalco Square and Patia Square, where pipe heads had been left exposed above ground.

In several locations, the structures were reported to be nearly four feet high, posing a risk to motorists and pedestrians, reported The Times of India.

The issue had triggered complaints from commuters over the potential for accidents, particularly during night-time travel.

Mayor Sulochana Das coordinated with civic and utility agencies to address the problem.

Officials said the removal was carried out to improve road safety and prevent further hazards.

The exposed pipeline components were part of earlier infrastructure work.

The development highlights concerns around execution and safety checks in urban utility projects.
