Andhra ramps up power grid push with Rs 5,000-cr transmission projects

Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (APTRANSCO) is implementing projects worth Rs 5,000 crore to strengthen the state’s power transmission network, special chief secretary to the Chief Minister K Vijayanand said on Wednesday.

He said proposals for additional projects worth Rs 3,000 crore are also being prepared to further strengthen the power system.

“Various projects are being implemented at a fast pace across the state under APTRANSCO, with an estimated cost of around Rs 5,000 crore, aimed at strengthening the power transmission network,” he said in an official release.

During a review meeting, Vijayanand directed officials to prepare a specific implementation calendar for the construction of 400 kV, 220 kV, and 132 kV substations within the stipulated timeframe.

He also asked officials to prepare a procurement calendar for 2026-27, covering materials required for RMI and O&M (operations and maintenance), as well as construction activities, and to carry out procurement accordingly.

According to the special chief secretary, the state government is committed to strengthening the power sector and ensuring uninterrupted quality power supply to all categories of consumers.

Emphasising that transmission infrastructure plays a key role in achieving this objective, Vijayanand directed officials to closely monitor system performance, reduce outages, and ensure timely completion of all ongoing works to meet growing power demand efficiently.
