Pune plans Rs 1,250 crore loan to upgrade civic infrastructure

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning to raise Rs 1,250 crore through loans from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank to upgrade infrastructure in the city.

The funds are expected to be used to improve roads, drainage systems and civic infrastructure in several areas, including 32 villages that were recently merged into Pune’s municipal limits.

Officials said the infrastructure projects are aimed at addressing gaps in urban services in newly incorporated areas that require improved road connectivity and drainage systems, reported Hindustan Times.

The expansion of municipal boundaries has increased the need for new infrastructure investments in areas that previously lacked city-level civic facilities.

The PMC said the proposed projects are part of broader efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve public services as Pune continues to expand.

The projects are also expected to help improve road conditions and manage stormwater drainage more effectively in developing parts of the city.
