Visakhapatnam plans 76.7 km metro network and new flyovers

Visakhapatnam is planning a 76.7 km metro rail network as part of efforts to strengthen public transport infrastructure in the city.

The proposal also includes construction of 12 flyovers along the NH-16 corridor, aimed at reducing congestion on one of the city’s busiest transport routes.

Officials said the metro project is designed to improve connectivity across the city and support the growing transport needs of residents, reported MagicBricks.

The proposed network will help manage increasing traffic volumes and improve urban mobility in Visakhapatnam.

Authorities said the metro system will also play an important role in strengthening connectivity before the Bhogapuram International Airport becomes operational.

The first phase of the metro project is expected to require an investment of more than Rs 14,000 crore.

Officials said the project will contribute to improving public transport access while reducing pressure on existing road infrastructure.
