Pune proposes Rs 1,866 crore road infrastructure plan

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed a major infrastructure programme under its 2026–27 draft budget, allocating Rs 1,866 crore for road development across the city.

The proposal includes construction of 64 km of new roads and improvements to existing transport corridors.

Authorities said the city will focus on 32 arterial roads, which currently carry around 80 per cent of Pune’s traffic.

The infrastructure plan also includes upgrades to 30 major traffic junctions, where redesigned layouts and improved traffic management measures will be introduced, reported The Times of India.

Officials said the programme will address 12 missing road links, which currently affect connectivity between neighbourhoods and increase travel time.

The development plan also includes construction of flyovers, tunnels, grade separators and pedestrian infrastructure as part of efforts to strengthen Pune’s transport network.

Authorities said the projects are expected to improve connectivity and help manage increasing traffic movement across the city.
