Gujarat to develop five satellite towns to ease congestion in major cities

The Gujarat government has announced plans to develop five satellite towns — Sanand, Kalol, Savli, Bardoli and Hirasar — as part of the 2026–27 state budget.

The towns will be connected through a proposed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to improve connectivity and support decentralised urban growth.

The budget also includes Rs 200 crore for smart parking and traffic systems, and Rs 350 crore for construction of railway overbridges and underpasses.

An additional Rs 180 crore has been allocated for integrated command and control centres in 12 municipal corporations.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at reducing congestion in major cities and strengthening urban infrastructure, The Times of India reported.
