Jindal Steel plans major expansion at Raigarh to boost structural steel output

Jindal Steel said it will expand its structural steel manufacturing capacity at its Raigarh plant from the existing 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 2.4 MTPA by mid-2028.

In a statement, the Naveen Jindal Group company said the expansion would significantly enhance the availability of heavy and ultra-heavy structural steel sections in India and strengthen its position in the segment.

Structural steel plays a key role in infrastructure projects such as bridges, towers and large buildings, sectors that are witnessing increased activity driven by government-led schemes and private investments.

As part of the expansion plan, Jindal Steel said it will commission a new, dedicated structural steel mill at the Raigarh facility. The project will also include advanced upstream and downstream technology upgrades.

The company currently manufactures parallel flange structural sections ranging from 100 mm to 900 mm, with sectional weights of up to 333 kg per metre.

Following the expansion, Jindal Steel said its production capability will extend to ultra-heavy sections reaching 1,100 mm in depth and weighing up to 1,500 kg per metre.

The company did not disclose the investment value of the expansion plan.
